Contemporary Walnut Dining Chair

This chair is part of the walnut dining set. Its form is deliberately optimistic, as the sinuous legs suggest a forward motion. Special attention was given to the back support, as I tailored it to my client’s comfort. Over 2” of sculpted foam padding gently supports the lower lumbar with a natural feel. As the back gives way to shoulders, padding is tapered to a normal thickness and radius, which complements the sculptural form of the chair.

The chair’s back panel is graced with a select piece of walnut burl. Its bloom contributes to a highly refined feel. Hidden beneath the surface of the solid walnut frame is a complex set of traditional furniture joints: the mortise and tenon. The result is an exciting form supported by proven traditional methods that assure generations of enjoyment.
